How Long Can Kavanaugh Advertise On A Homophobic Web Site?
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

DOES KAVANAUGH AGREE WITH HOMOPHOBIC RANTS ON THAT OTHER SITE?...LENIHAN WAY OUT IN FRONT IN COMMITTEE RACES...No Help For Paretti?

Many in the gay community are becoming increasingly concerned over the fact that the Barbara Kavanaugh campaign continues to advertise on and bankroll an openly homophobic web site. Of course, you know the one we're talking about.

"Would Byron Brown advertise on a Ku Klux Klan web site," one source asks. "Would Ceasar Chavez give money to an anti-Mexican bigot?...Yet, Barbara Kavanaugh continues to financially back and work with others who back an anti-gay hate web site and we're wondering why!"

Look for this issue to come up again and again as the campaign goes on and more Dem voters learn more about the hate and personal attacks being put out on a web site supported by Kavanaugh.

Lenihan Ahead By A Mile...Max Nowhere To Be Seen

Sources are telling us that the all-important Erie County Democratic Party committee race battle is being run away with by forces supporting Chairman Len Lenihan, with his opponent, Cheektowaga Chairman Frank Max not showing up much at community events where he would be expected to be campaigning.

Source: Questions Being Raised Re Thomas Appointment
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

SOME COUNCIL MEMBERS WONDERING IF GRASSROOTS CHAIR IS APPROPRIATE CHOICE FOR HUMAN RESOURCES COMMISSIONER..THOMPSON OUT AS DEPUTY ELECTIONS COMMISH?

Our sources are telling us that the nomination by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown of Water Authority Aide Carla Thomas to be Human Resources Commissioner at City Hall could be in trouble, with some Common Council members seriously at considering at least delaying it for a long stretch. There is no question that Ms. Thomas is an able and sensitive woman who has done well in her previous positions, including her service as chief aide to Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples. The concerns relate to her status as Chairperson of Grassroots, the powerful African-Americna political organization.

Specificially, some are wondering if the head of a political organization that's devoted to garnering patronage appointments should be put in charge of all the hiring and firing done by the City of Buffalo.

"If this was a member of another ethnic group who was the head of this kind of  political organization, would that person even be considered for such a post," our source wonders. "This is a person who is going to have access to people's private personnel files, who will be in a position to assist the hiring of some applicants and oppose the hiring of others. Do you really want the head of a political patronage organization wielding all that power?...With the Common Council controlled by Brown critics, they could delay the Thomas appointment for years if they want to."

Nuchereno: She's Worked Hard To Bring Families Together
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

BARBARA NUCHERENO: A TRAINED MEDIATOR AND EXPERIENCED SETTLER OF FAMILY DISPUTES FOR FAMILY COURT JUDGE

Though she was already an experienced attorney, Barbara Nuchereno admits that perhaps the most important moment of her professional life occurred when then Family Court Administrative Judge Sharon Townsend offered her a job as her law clerk.

"I really love Family Court because it's a place where the important thing is to resolve disputes and bring families together rather than picking winners and losers," she points out. "I have really enjoyed my time as a law clerk in Family Court because it has given me the opportunity to resolve issues for the benefit of children and all the members of a family."

Now this Williamsville native is running for the positon of Erie County Family Court Judge with the goal of using all the experience she has gained to help all the families who come before FC Judges seeking help.

"As a Family Court law clerk, my job is to work with the attorneys and the parties to find settlements of disputes that I can recommend to the Judge which will help families to come together," she explains. "I can recall so many people I have been able to help using my

Humiston: Bringing The Ingenuity Of An Entrepreneur To Washington
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

WHILE OTHERS MERELY TALK ABOUT CREATING JOBS, DAN HUMISTON HAS DONE IT...NOW HE WANTS TO LEAD A WNY ECONOMIC REVIVAL FROM OUR NATION'S CAPITAL

In 1985, Dan Humiston was just another young WNYer who couldn't find a decent job after college. Instead of giving up or moving to a more promising economic vicinity, he borrowed $4,000 from a relative and opened up his first tanning salon in the basement of an office building in West Seneca.

"I only had two tanning beds in that location back then," he recalls. "I used to ride my bike to work every day and work really long hours. It was tough in the beginning but I really loved it."

These days Humiston has 35 such venues spread out all over the Empire State. Now this registered independent has taken on a new challenge, running as the Republican nominee for a congressional seat on a platform of bringing a self made businessman's creativity and innovative spirit to the halls of Congress.

"What we need in Washington is somone who knows what it's like to create jobs and to manage and train employees," Humiston declares. "Leaders don't pick the times. The times pick the leaders and right now we need a new kind of leader in Washington and that's one of the main reasons why I'm running."

Case: "I Had The Guts To Challenge Clark When No One Else Would"
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

ARMED WITH UNANIMOUS POLICE UNION SUPPORT, DA CANDIDATE KEN CASE IS MAKING THE CASE THAT HE'S THE ONLY INDEPENDENT CHOICE

"What is the most important issue in the current race for Erie County District Attorney?  In the view of candidate Ken Case it's the fact that he was willing to go out on a limb to challenge incumbent DA Frank Clark while others were playing it safe.

"I had the courage to run against Frank Clark and I did it, not because I thought it would benefit my career, but because I believed there was a public safety problem involved here and I thought that someone needed to come forward and insist that a change needed to be made," this former Asst. District Attorney points out. "I thought we needed a DA who would work more closely with the police to make cases against habitual criminals, who would be much more aggressive in using tools such as Project Exile and the witness protection program to fight crime and protect our citizens. Others might have agreed with me, but they didn't have the courage to get out there and put themselves on the line to take a stand. I did."

The result of Case's early decision has been a remarkable run in which he has garnered the support of literally every police union in Erie County that makes endorsements, with the Buffalo Police Benevelent Assn. recently added to the list.

"I have also been endorsed by the WNY Police Assn., the Police Council  of the State of New York, the Erie County Sheriff's PBA, the NFTA police union, the NYS Troopers union, the Cheektowga Police Club,  and the Amherst,

Paterson and the Politics of Budget Cutting...Pick Your Enemies
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

DAVID PATERSON'S WALK ON THE BUDGET CUTTING HIGH WIRE...WHERE HE CUTS WILL DETERMINE WHO WILL BE BANKROLLING  HIS OPPONENTS

Accidential New York Governor David Paterson did the right thing, both politically and otherwise, by taking the fiscal bull by the horns with a 10 minute address to the people of the Empire State in which he called the Legislature back into session to cut $700 milion from the state budget. What would have been really impressive would have been if the Governor had outlined exactly WHERE he thought the Albany spending plan should be cut.

The big problem for a Governor who wants to run for a term in his own right in 2010 is that whatever cuts he decides to support will in turn spawn a group of political enemies who will be ready, willing, and able to spend big money to defeat him...possibly on behalf of an Andrew Cuomo challenge in the Dem primary two years from now or another Tom Suozzi run.

For example, if he chooses to propose cutting the state workforce, he will have to contend

Steelworkers' Pienta: He's Not Against Trade...As Long As It's Fair
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

DISTRICT 4 STEELWORKERS DIRECTOR BILL PIENTA: HE REPRESENTS THE MOST PRODUCTIVE WORKERS IN THE WORLD...ALL THEY NEED TO SUCCEED IS A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD

Instead of complaining about the challenges of free trade, play by the rules, the Bush Administration says to the American Labor Movement. So the United Steelworkers decided to do just that, mounting expensive legal challenges to the unfair trading practices used by the Peoples Republic of China and winning all six cases before international trade tribunals.

What did the steelworkers get for their diligence?

"We won all 6 cases, but the Bush Administration simply refused to enforce what the courts ruled against China," reports United Steelworkers of America District 4 Director Bill Pienta. "They just refused. The problem is that the provisions of these trade agreements that could protect American workers from unfair practices by China and other countries are simply not being enforced. Did you know that the Chinese government has forgiven the electric bills run up by their steel industry to the tune of over $30 billion?

"Can  you imagine how well our steel industry could do if our government were to pay all of their utility bills? According to every study that's been done, our workers are the most productive per man hour in the world. But, it's pretty hard to compete with countries that continually break the rules of international trade as stated in the trade agreements themselves and nothing is done about it."

Still, Pienta asks that readers please don't get him wrong. Many of his members' jobs in

Delano: He's Running To Get To Bottom Of Mess In Albany
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

AS CROWDS CALL HIM A HERO, DENNIS DELANO DECLARES IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN THE EMPIRE STATE....ASKS WHERE OPPONENT HAS BEEN PAST 27 YEARS

It happens everywhere Republican state senate candidate Dennis Delano goes, at Hamburg's Blast on the Beach, at the Blessed Sacrament Church lawn, at Cheektowaga's Pulaksi Day Parade....Ordinary people come up to him pledging their support, calling  him their hero for standing up for the innocence of DeJac and Cappozzi even if it meant risking the ire of his superiors, Democrats announcing they will cross party lines to vote for him.

What does Delano see as the major issue of his race against incumbent State Senator Bill Stachowski?

"The major issue for me is putting the taxpayers first," he replies. "Right now many of these politicians in Albany are catering to so many special interests that they aren't even thinking about the interests of the average taxpayer. Look at  how they went home without passing the cap on property taxes, for example. There are thousands of hard working tax payers all over this state who
